I have a M.A.T. from Trevecca Nazarene University and a B.S. in English from Austin Peay University. Dolly Parton once said, "Find out who you are and do it on purpose". My goal in the classroom is to help the student find out the learner they are and do it with intention.

I earned a BA in Literature (with a minor in Spanish) from Ohio Northern University, an MA in Teaching from Grand Canyon University, and an EdS in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University. I believe that literature opens our minds to opportunities and learning experiences we couldn't get anywhere else, and encourages us to dream a bigger dream. My goal is to help each of my students improve their skills in reading and writing in order to have more opportunities to be successful in whatever path they choose in life.

Sarah King
King, Sarah
7th & 8th Social Studies/Literacy Teacher
I grew up in Centerville in Hickman County, went to Cornell College, received a B.A. in History, and earned a Master's Degree in Education from Tennessee State University.

Teaching History is my passion and I adore being with middle schoolers. Students experience Project Based Learning, a variety of Google Apps for Education, and applying Growth Mindset to their learning. I craft lessons where students experience a blended learning environment where they are moving, thinking and accessing technology as well as some traditional approaches to learning the stories of History. I believe that as a society, we will never outgrow our need for good readers and critical thinkers, so lessons often include reading, writing and thinking. I know that both students and teachers don't learn by doing -- rather, we learn by thinking about what we have done. Too often in education, we treat learning like factory work and ask students to just do, rather than reflect. Reflection is key to learning and growth, and I am always reflecting on ways I can be a better teacher, and I think my students know I value what they think too.  For more information about me professionally, visit www.sarahbatesking.weebly.com.
