Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and support during these days. Additional information will be added as it becomes available. This information is subject to change.

We are excited to see your student back in school in August!

What is the latest on the opening of school? Schools are scheduled to open on August 3rd. On Monday (8/3) and Tuesday (8/4) students with the last names A – L will go on regular schedule. On Wednesday (8/5) and Thursday (8/6) students with last names M – Z will go on regular schedule. On Friday (8/7) all students will attend on regular schedule. After this all students will attend each day.

What if the students in our family have multiple last names? If families have multiple last names, they will follow the last name of the oldest enrolled student in the family.

Will before- & after-cares be open? Yes, those services are scheduled to open on August 3rd. Students must be registered in advance. Childcare registration for K-5 will be on our district website starting the week of July 20. PreK childcare needs should be shared with the Pre-K teacher for discussion at a later date.

What should I be doing to help my student return to school? Emotionally prepare your child for a return to school. Begin to re-establish normal routines (bed time/waking up). Purchase school supplies as requested. Discuss and share the importance of social distancing (arms length / personal space). Discuss appropriate wearing of masks/face coverings. Discuss hygiene and hand washing.

Is everyone required to wear a mask/face covering? Masks are required on buses and when social distancing cannot be maintained. Students/staff who have medical notes are excused.

What attendance policies will be implemented? As always, students are expected to stay home when they are sick. Attendance programs (strive for five, etc.) will not be implemented during the 20-21 school year.

What if we are still unsure about our decision to return to school? Decisions should be discussed with your school principal. Registration for the virtual program must be made no later than 7/24.

What school supplies will my student need? School supply lists are available on the websites and at larger stores. It will be important that all students have their own supplies, as sharing will be limited. Students must bring their own water bottles, as water fountains will not be available.

Will my elementary child have classes such as art, music, recess? Classes are expected to return to normal as soon as possible. However, some transitions between classrooms may be limited.
What social distancing procedures will be implemented? Social distancing expectations will be shared with students, essentially an arm’s length distance when in line or in groups. Small group instruction and partnering will be limited.

What visitor procedures will be implemented? In general, visitors are limited to “appointment only”. Appointments should be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Those attending appointments will be screened upon entry. When items need to be dropped off or picked up, locations outside of the main door will be used.

What options are available if I am not comfortable sending my student to school? We would be glad to discuss your concerns. We also have remote/distance options available. Please contact your child’s school or call Central Office beginning on July 15th.

Will the transportation be provided? Yes, regular transportation routes will be provided. Any student riding a Dickson County bus must wear a mask during the ride.

When will we receive more information? A reopening guide will be revised and posted on the System website. If you have school-specific questions, you are welcome to call or email school principals.

These Procedures are intended to mitigate, not eliminate risks. No single action or set of actions will completely eliminate the risk of COVID-19 transmissions, but the implementation of several coordinated interventions can greatly reduce the risk.
