DICKSON COUNTY SCHOOLS PARTNER WITH DICKSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO SUPPORT PUBLIC EDUCATION

The Dickson County School System is partnering with the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office to create safe school environments.  Steve Sorrells, Director of Student Services, is working with a team from each school to renew and revisit Crisis Management Plans.   These Plans are essential in ensuring a safe learning environment through a multi-hazard approach.
“We are proud to partner with many community agencies to help provide safe learning environments”, said Dr. Danny Weeks, Director of Schools.   Everyone senses that school safety is a priority for our County and for our students.  Weeks continued, “The Board has emphasized their support for safe schools through the funding of the School Resource Officer (SRO) program.”   This funding is jointly comprised of local County dollars, City of Dickson dollars, and the State of Tennessee School Resource Officer Grant.  This combined funding allows for coverage of SROs in all of our schools.

School Resource Officers are recognized as more than a law enforcement agent in the building.  Rather, they are developing relationships with students and identifying needs of students, in order to connect them with appropriate resources.  We are very pleased with the leadership and cooperation of both the City of Dickson Police Department and the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office.  Chief Jeff Lewis and Interims Sheriff Holt have been great supporters of Dickson County Schools.  We are thankful for their commitments to this program and toward the school system.
