The Syllable Layer of Decoding: Direct, explicit instruction in syllabication skills supports word reading, spelling, fluency, and comprehension. The six common syllable types will be explored, with strategies shared for assessment and instruction. This overview includes the development of syllable awareness to the more complex skill of syllable division.
