Laura Ferrell, New Director of Early Numeracy Coordinator

Mrs. Ferrell has been an educator for Dickson County Schools since 2005.  A Dickson County native, she is a 1997 graduate of Dickson County High School.  She attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2001. After working for three years at the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville as House Operations Coordinator, she went on to graduate school at Belmont University.  She obtained her Master of Arts in Teaching from Belmont in 2005.

She started her teaching career at Centennial Elementary, where she served for fourteen years.  She taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade while there. She then taught second grade at Stuart Burns Elementary for two years.  Since 2021, she has worked as the Instructional Coach at The Discovery School serving teachers and students in grades K-5.

Mrs. Ferrell is looking forward to collaborating more closely with district staff, teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators of our great school system to continue to build our students’ mathematical conceptual understanding and fluency.

Mrs. Ferrell lives in Burns with her husband, Brent. They have two sons, Whitt and Russ.  Whitt just graduated from DCHS in May, and Russ is currently a sophomore on “The Hill.” She is grateful to continue serving the teachers and students of Dickson County in her new role as Elementary Numeracy Coordinator.
