October 27th Basketball will be hosting “Dragon Madness” in our gym from 4-7 p.m. This will be the kick-off to Basketball season and a great time to show support for our team!  Admission is free for 18 years and under.  The first 20 students to enter the event will receive a free “Den Crew” t-shirt.

Next week the Attendance Committee is sponsoring EPSO Week.  EPSO (Early Postsecondary Opportunity) Week is celebrated statewide during the week of October 22-26.  The goal of EPSO Week is to increase awareness of and enrollment in EPSOs for students across the state.  EPSO Week will serve as a platform for schools and districts to highlight opportunities for students to earn college credit/certificates while in high school.   Here is what we are doing to celebrate EPSO week at DMS:

Dress Up Days:  Monday-Dream Big with Pajama Day        Tuesday- Hats Off to good attendance-Hat Day  Wednesday-Put your BEST foot forward-Crazy Sock Day   Thursday-Dress for Success-Dress for the occupation you want to be          Friday-College Day wear-Wear your favorite college shirt.  Teachers please wear your Alum Shirt if possible.

Penny Wars starts next week for EPSO week!!!!  7th and 8th grades are competing against each other!  Start digging under couch cushions, bottom of backpacks and any other area change gets lost in.  Here is how it works:  Only pennies are positive points for your grade.  All silver coins and bills are negative points.  For example:  50 pennies is +50 points and a $5 dollar bill is a negative 500 points for your grade.  So, put your pennies in your own grade’s water jug and silver and bills in the other grade’s water jug.  Water jugs will be in the gym before school and outside the cafeteria during school hours.

Washington D.C. packets are available in the front office for any 8th grader who is interested in going.

On November 9th Dickson Middle School will be honoring our Veterans.  Each year we ask our 8th grade students to invite family members who served or are serving in the U.S. Military.  Eighth grade students if you have a family member you would like to honor at this event please pick up an information letter in the front office.
