Elementary Education Department

Elementary education lays the foundation for a child's lifelong learning journey. It's where young minds, typically between the ages of 5 and 11, encounter a world of knowledge and develop the essential skills they'll need to thrive in the future.

The goal of the Dickson County Elementary Division is to equip each elementary student with the academic and social skills necessary for a successful transition to middle school. Our elementary schools follow a curriculum aligned with state standards and benchmarks. Core subjects like reading, writing, math, science, and social studies form the backbone of the curriculum, with additional subjects like art, music, physical education, and technology woven in to create a well-rounded learning experience.

District initiatives assist teachers in employing differentiated instruction methods to support individual needs and learning styles. Special education programs also offer support for children with disabilities, while gifted and talented programs challenge high-achieving students.

Elementary education goes beyond academics. It fosters creativity and imagination through hands-on activities, arts integration, and project-based learning. Social-emotional development is equally important, with schools implementing programs and strategies to help children build self-awareness, manage emotions, and develop healthy relationships.

Technology plays an increasingly important role in elementary education. Schools use interactive whiteboards, Chromebooks, tablets, and other tools to enhance learning, engage students, and prepare them for a tech-driven future.

There are eight elementary schools in Dickson County. The elementary student body population is approximately 4200. All elementary schools provide before and after school extended childcare services for students. This service is available during intercessions and in the summer.
